Job summary

Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston is seeking an At‑Risk Counselor (Title Funded) for a middle school. You will plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for at‑risk students, working with staff, families and community resources to promote academic, personal and social growth.

The role requires a Master’s in guidance counseling and Texas certification, is exempt, and reports to the Building Principal.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in guidance counseling is required.
• Valid Texas counseling certificate or out-of-state certificate appropriate for position.
• Two years teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum aligned with the district plan.
• Assist teachers in guidance-related instruction.
• Guide students to develop education and career plans.
• Coordinate opportunities for credit recovery in night school or virtual school.
• Provide documentation for 504 and Special Education accommodations to teachers.
• Transition freshmen orientation.
• Counsel individuals and small groups with presenting needs.
• Consult parents, teachers, and administrators to enhance student services.
• Develop positive relationships with community resources.
• Maintain an effective referral process to connect students with services.
• Address student adjustment issues.
• Support students with challenges in virtual courses.
• Create a conducive classroom environment and manage student behavior.
