Job summary

Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in Asia-Pacific seeks a Specialist Editor to execute the regional editorial strategy, commissioning, writing, editing, and publishing stories for CPJ’s platforms.

Embedded within the regional program, you will align output with local priorities, collaborate with the Research & Analysis team, and manage editorial projects across time zones and languages. The role emphasizes timely, accurate content and press freedom advocacy.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of experience as an editor for a news agency, website, newspaper, or broadcast outlet.
  • Experience in web publishing using WordPress.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and collaborative tools.
  • Ability to work across time zones and with international teams.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in the location to which they apply.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, write, edit and publish daily content, including news alerts, statements, reports, and other materials that align with regional needs and priorities.
  • Publish content on CPJ’s website, including selecting photos and writing captions.
  • Manage and publish regional social media content in real-time, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging posts.
  • Disseminate regional content via email or other channels according to CPJ’s strategy.
  • Edit research on journalists who have been killed, imprisoned, or attacked, ensuring accuracy and editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with Regional Director and Research & Analysis team to execute regional strategy.
  • Provide training and mentorship to regional staff on editorial best practices.
