Job summary

Lincoln Park Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for ASD (SV) in a middle school setting. The role focuses on adapting curricula, assessing progress, and implementing trauma-informed strategies to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The position is full-time, funded under Act 18, and follows the district’s calendar. Collaboration with general education staff and behavior planning are essential components of the role.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification.
• Appropriate Special Education Endorsement (SV) Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Experience with Special Education population preferred.
• Experience working in a center based program preferred.
• Must meet MCL 380.1531 & Administrative Rules Governing the Certification of MI Teachers.
• START Training preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education and/or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

• Adapting, accommodating, and modifying the general education curricula, pedagogy, and learning environments for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Assessing, teaching, and modifying instruction and curricula for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Knowledge and skills to implement trauma-informed/resiliency based strategies & interventions.
• Aligning and adapting the student’s program with the general education curriculum.
• Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized behavior management strategies and plans. Must prepare and implement behavior plans based upon functional behavioral assessments.
• Using a range of curriculum guides to assist with identifying functional goals.
• Employing current assessment instruments and approaches, intervention methodologies, strategies, and techniques that are appropriate for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder linking assessment outcomes to curriculum planning.
• Ability to complete records in a timely manner
• Possess skills to communicate to all members of the school & community
• Be able to meet the physical and mental demands of the teaching profession and the position
• Philosophy in accordance with Lincoln Park Public Schools
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Ability to follow requirements of special education supervisors
• Classroom instruction and instructional leader for meeting the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Ability to coordinate and oversee Peer to Peer program
• Ability to work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide LRE for students with Autism
• Other duties as assigned
