Job summary

Groves Literacy Partnerships seeks an Independent Contractor tutor to support approximately 100 students across three North Minneapolis partner schools. You’ll build consistent, trusting relationships and deliver structured literacy instruction using evidence-based methods.

This 1099 contract offers about 15 hours per week, roughly 3:00–6:00 p.m., at Lucy Laney Community School, Nellie Stone Johnson Community School, and Ascension Catholic School.

• Ability to deliver services using a structured instructional model.
• Openness to program guidance, coaching, and feedback.
• Experience working with children, education, literacy, tutoring, or community programs.

Responsibilities

• Build consistent, encouraging relationships with a small group of students.
• Provide literacy tutoring to students in pairs using a structured instructional model.
• Support approximately 10 students organized into five tutoring pairs.
• Deliver consistent tutoring sessions throughout the week.
• Use curriculum, instructional materials, and progress-monitoring tools provided through the program.
• Help students strengthen foundational reading skills, including phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension.
• Communicate regularly with program and site contacts.
• Maintain reliable attendance and fulfill all agreed-upon tutoring sessions.
• Complete required orientation, training, and child-safety requirements.
• Create an environment where students feel respected, capable, and excited to return.
