Job summary

CREF seeks an Executive Director to lead strategic vision, educational programs, research initiatives, and financial operations, reporting to the Board of Trustees. The role balances executive leadership with hands-on management to grow the Foundation’s impact and advance our mission.

The Executive Director will guide annual operational planning, stakeholder relations, and program growth while maintaining solid governance and fiscal oversight. Travel to national conferences is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (science or related degree preferred) and 4–6 years of leadership experience.
• Proven external relationship-building and nonprofit board collaboration.
• Strong grant-writing and revenue-growth background.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Governance: implement board policies, ensure 501(c)(3) compliance, and coordinate annual planning.
• Research, Education & Program Management: oversee training initiatives, research grants, and outreach campaigns.
• Revenue Generation & Fundraising: lead grant writing, sponsorships, and fee-based programs.
• Operations & Administration: manage budgets, reporting (990), and staff/contractor supervision.
