Job summary

The Boston Foundation is seeking an Impact Analyst to strengthen measurement of grantmaking scope, reach, and outcomes. This cross-functional role partners with the Senior Director of Equitable Learning and Measurement and Program staff across four Pathways: Child Well-Being, Economic Opportunity, Community Leadership, and Community Wealth.

Responsibilities include data collection, sector research, dissemination of narratives, and maintaining dashboards for quarterly and annual reporting.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a social science or statistics discipline.
• 2+ years relevant work experience in an applied social science role preferred.
• Proficiency in R, Python, or equivalent language for statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in creating accessible data presentations using Microsoft Office, Canva, or equivalents.
• Experience with GIS mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS, CARTO).
• Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to equity-centered mission.

Impact Analyst, Equitable Learning & Measurement

Supervises: None
Hybrid Schedule (subject to change): 2 days per week in office, Tuesdays and Thursday. The remaining 3 days may be worked remotely.
Position Budgeted: $75,000.00 to $85,000.00

Position Summary: The Boston Foundation is seeking an Impact Analyst to strengthen measurement of the scope, reach, and outcomes of TBF’s grantmaking partnerships and related strategic activities. This is a cross-functional role, working in close collaboration with the Senior Director of Equitable Learning and Measurement and Program Department staff across our four priority issue areas (or “Pathways”): Child Well-Being, Economic Opportunity, Community Leadership, and Community Wealth.

Essential Functions:

• Data Collection, Engagement, and Reporting
• Collaborate with program staff and partners to collect data describing short- and long-term impact of the Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking, including quantitative and qualitative metrics;
• Document and describe program staff’s strategic activities that further support partner impact (beyond traditional grantmaking);
• Document and describe Pathway teams’ varied decision-making frameworks for selecting partners, delivering resources, tracking relevant population-level outcomes, and (where applicable) exiting or scaling back work; and
• Support the Senior Director in analyzing impact data and frameworks, synthesizing learnings into compelling narratives that help community members across Greater Boston understand TBF’s mission, values, and outcomes as a community foundation.
• Sector Research & Analysis
• Support comprehensive due diligence toward assessing prospective partners’ organizational structures, financial health, and technical assistance or capacity-building needs;
• Support sector research exploring TBF’s unique role within emergent issue areas, such as landscape analyses toward entering or deepening our grantmaking footprint within an issue area; and
• Assist Program Department staff with ad hoc requests from board members and donors, acting as a thought partner in assessing and responding thoughtfully to new funding opportunities.
• Dissemination
• Support the Senior Director and Chief Program Officer in generating narratives, data charts, graphics, and multi-media content about program activities for quarterly and annual reporting to the Board of Directors;
• Support the Senior Director in sharing department learnings with internal staff, donors, partners, and the public, such as through blog posts, webinars, presenting at All-Staff meetings, and updates to TBF’s website; and
• Maintain TBF’s presence on national funder trackers and dashboards such as Candid, Impala, and Charity Navigator.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a social science or statistics discipline (e.g., Psychology, Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Social Work) required; and
• 2+ years relevant work experience in an applied social science role (may include internships, fellowships, and teaching) preferred.
• Proficiency in R, Python, or equivalent programming language for statistical analysis of Program data and public datasets;
• Proficiency in creating accessible and engaging data presentations using Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, or equivalent visualization software;
• Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping software such as ARC GIS, QGIS, or CARTO;
• Familiarity with Salesforce or similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Understanding of and commitment to the Foundation’s equity-centered mission; and
• Enthusiasm for supporting colleagues in a wide range of measurement activities to further the Foundation’s mission to advance equity across Greater Boston.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

• Ability to work for long periods of time at a workstation;
• Ability to use a computer monitor and keyboard for long periods of time; and
• Ability to work onsite and remotely, as required.
