Job summary

Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio, TX is seeking an Immunohistology Technician to prepare and process tissue specimens for immunomicroscopic examination by a pathologist, maintain instruments, and monitor quality control. The ideal candidate holds HTL/HT (ASCP) certifications, has 2 years of histopathology experience in the last 3 years, and an Associate or Baccalaureate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and processes surgical, autopsy, bone marrow, body fluids, and biopsy specimens for gross and microscopic examination by a pathologist.
  • Prepares frozen sections of surgical specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist.
  • Prepares solutions for stains and special procedures.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on common instruments and keeps records of maintenance; performs basic quality control and quality assurance checks.
  • Answers telephones, communicates verified test results by phone, types procedures, files paperwork and slides, faxes documents, and performs data entry/retrieval as required.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Immunohistology Technician is responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens for immunomicroscopic examination by a pathologist; maintaining instruments; performing and monitoring quality control, and assuming accountability for own work.

What you will do in this role
  • Prepares and processes surgical, autopsy, bone marrow, body fluids, and biopsy specimens for gross and microscopic examination by a pathologist.
  • Prepares frozen sections of surgical specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist.
  • Prepares solutions for stains and special procedures.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on common instruments and keeps records of maintenance as prescribed. Understands and performs basic quality control: identifies quality control problems, participates in quality assurance monitors.
  • Answers telephones, communicates verified test results by phone, types procedures, files paperwork and slides, faxes documents, and performs data entry/retrieval as may be required, assists with inventory of supplies.
Qualifications you will need
  • High school graduation or equivalent and HTL (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) certification. Associate or baccalaureate degree is preferred plus qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC).
  • 2 years of experience in histopathology in the last 3 years preferred.
  • Associate degree is required or baccalaureate degree is preferred.
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required

Preferred: HTL (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) certification.
