The State of North Carolina seeks a leader for its immunization program within the Division of Public Health. The role includes strategic management of the Vaccines for Children Program and collaboration with various health stakeholders to enhance statewide health initiatives. This position demands significant public health knowledge and leadership experience, ensuring quality care and vaccination services for the community.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, direction, management, planning and organization to assure implementation of a comprehensive statewide immunization program consistent with state and federal policies. This position is responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating varied components of the federal Vaccines for Children Program to assure access to vaccines, decrease vaccine preventable diseases and improve and maintain preparedness for future pandemic influenza events. This position establishes and maintains effective partnerships with other DHHS agencies, immunization programs of other states, the service provider community, state and national professional organizations such as the North Carolina Pediatrics Society and the Association of Immunization Managers, federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and established advisory bodies such as the Immunization Advisory Council (IAC) to assure implementation of the tasks and responsibilities occurs through a strong team approach involving the immunization branch. The programs provide clinical guidance, quality assurance, technical assistance, consultation, and training for professionals who provide vaccines. The position and many activities of the branch are highly visible both externally and internally to state government and the public. Many of the activities carried out by the Branch can have immediate and direct impact on patients, providers and the public.
The position is required to monitor and assure high quality branch activities on a 24/7 basis, with some exception, and provide coordination, consultation and/or direction to staff and/or other agencies during disease outbreaks involving vaccination and other significant events or state emergencies.
