Job summary

Cabrini Immigrant Services of New York City (CIS-NYC) seeks a full-time, in-person Immigration Staff Attorney to provide legal counsel and representation to low-income immigrants and their families. You will handle a diverse caseload and work closely with clients and community partners to advance immigrant rights.

The role involves managing family-based petitions, asylum, U-Visas, TPS, humanitarian visas, adjustment of status, naturalization, waivers, nonimmigrant visas, and removal proceedings,

Qualifications

• Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction; NY admission preferred.
• 2–3 years of immigration law experience preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical and client-service skills.
• Excellent organizational and case-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a changing field.
• Commitment to serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal consultations and assess eligibility for immigration relief.
• Manage a diverse family-based and removal proceedings caseload.
• Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR, DOS and NY Family Court.
• Prepare and review applications, motions, briefs and evidence.
• Represent clients at interviews and court hearings.
• Conduct legal research and stay current on immigration law.
• Supervise staff and ensure effective case management.
• Maintain confidential client files and records.
• Collaborate with social workers and participate in outreach and workshops.
• Track outcomes and contribute to program reporting and advocacy.

Job description

CIS-NYC seeks a full-time, in-person Immigration Staff Attorney to provide legal counsel and representation to low-income immigrants and their families. The position is ideal for an attorney committed to immigrant rights, access to justice, and community-based legal services.

Position Responsibilities

• Provide legal consultations and assess eligibility for immigration relief.
• Manage a diverse caseload involving family-based immigration, asylum, U Visas, TPS, humanitarian visas, adjustment of status, naturalization, waivers, nonimmigrant visas, and removal of proceedings.
• Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR, the Department of State, and New York Family Court.
• Prepare and review applications, motions, briefs, supporting evidence, and other legal filings.
• Represent clients at USCIS interviews and Immigration Court hearings.
• Conduct legal research and remain current on immigration laws, regulations, and policies.
• Supervise legal staff and support effective case management and workflow.
• Maintain accurate, confidential client files and case-management records.
• Collaborate with social workers and participate in community outreach and legal workshops.
• Track case outcomes and contribute to program reporting and advocacy efforts.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Two - Three years of immigration law experience preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, communication, and client-service skills.
• Strong organizational and case management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in immigration law.
• Commitment to serving clients from diverse cultural, racial, socioeconomic, religious, gender, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds.

Salary: USD $75,000 - $85,000 / year based on experience
