Job summary

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in Houston seeks a Legal Assistant for UAC Legal Services to support direct legal services to unaccompanied alien children in ORR care.

You will handle administrative tasks, case management, and assist attorneys and volunteers with orientations, consultations, and filings. You will coordinate materials, maintain client records, and ensure timely submissions while upholding confidentiality and program requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or paralegal certificate or bachelor’s in a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Minimum 2 years in legal, immigration services, case management, or admin support.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support legal orientation presentations for UAC within the immigration system.
• Assist with scheduling, logistics, and materials for orientations at ORR shelters and care facilities.
• Support legal consultations by gathering documents and maintaining client records.
• Maintain accurate case notes and client information in case management systems.
• Track client appointments, deadlines, and follow-up activities.
• Provide administrative and case management support for UAC in ORR care.
• Prepare and maintain physical and electronic case files; assist with immigration applications and filings.
• Coordinate collection of client records and evidence for cases; draft routine correspondence for attorney review.
• Monitor filing deadlines and ensure timely submission of applications and documents.
• Support attorneys in preparing for immigration court hearings and other proceedings.
• Maintain data compliance and generate case status reports as required.
