Job description

Immigration Attorney, OLA of Eastern Long Island, Inc.

Position:

The Immigration Attorney will help to develop a new pro bono immigration law program on
Eastern Long Island. In addition to initial program start-up activities, the Immigration Attorney will provide individualized assistance and representation to clients in various affirmative and defensive matters. This position may be fully remote; however, a hybrid schedule is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing policies and procedures for the operations of the program
  • Providing confidential legal consultations on and conducting initial assessments of immigration cases to determine eligibility for immigration benefits
  • Counseling and assisting clients and their families with various applications for immigration benefits
  • Completing case-related applications and petitions, supporting paperwork, and professional documentation of services
  • Supervising support staff
  • Staying abreast of changes in immigration policy and laws
  • Providing community education by keeping the community aware of updates to immigration laws through emails, social media, and/or Facebook live presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Be admitted to practice law (preferably in New York State)
  • Have a minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in immigration law and in representing clients
    before the Department of Homeland Security and/or the New York Federal Plaza
    Immigration Court
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • OLA has a preference for applicants with prior experience living or working on the East
    End of Long Island (Riverhead, Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton, and East
    Hampton).
