Job summary

Department

This position is housed within Immigration Services for Studentsand Scholars under the Office of Global Engagement. No priorimmigration advising experience is required. Preferredqualifications include strong organizational, problem-solving,written communication, and interpersonal skills; attention todetail; the ability to interpret and communicate complexregulations; and an interest in supporting international studentsand scholars. Familiarity with international education, studentservices, federal immigration regulations, or university complianceis beneficial but not required. Because the position will serve as a Designated School Official andAlternate Responsible Officer, applicants must be U.S. citizens orlawful permanent residents and must meet all federal eligibilityrequirements for those roles.

Job Summary

Provides specialized student support to international students andinternational study abroad students. Incumbents in this jobclassification are responsible for providing immigration advisingservices and new student orientation to meet the needs of theinternational student population. The Immigration Advisor problemsolves a variety of complex immigration issues requiringconsiderable knowledge of immigration rules and regulations. Incumbents work independently with decisions impacting students’educational goals.

Federal law requires DSOs and AROs to update and maintain SEVISrecords for F, J, and M students, and SEVP guidance states thatDSOs and AROs must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residentsand regularly employed members of the school administration.
