Job summary

We Are CASA is seeking a dedicated Immigrant Integration Services Coordinator to implement citizenship, financial education, tax and class programs for CASA members. You will train volunteers, coordinate citizenship classes and clinics, and ensure high-quality service to all participants and taxpayers.

The role requires federal accreditation continuance or commitment to obtain, strong English communication, and ability to work evenings/weekends across multiple sites including Maryland, Virginia,

Qualifications

  • Excellent English writing and speaking skills
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing citizenship applications (N-400) and green card renewals (I-90)
  • Experience preparing tax returns or volunteering at a VITA Site with IRS certification at Site Manager level
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/French is a plus
  • DOJ-BIA accreditation with We Are CASA or commitment to obtain within 6 months
  • IRS-Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA) status or commitment to obtain within 6 months
  • Strong computer skills (Word and Excel) and willingness to learn other programs
  • Understanding of financial education and the naturalization process
  • AmeriCorps familiarity preferred
  • Highly organized and able to lead multiple ongoing projects
  • Commitment to social change and growing We Are CASA as a membership organization
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills

We Are CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although We Are CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.

DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS

TheImmigrant Integration Program (IIP), part of the Programs and Services Division, offers a range of services to support We Are CASA members in fully exercising their rights. These include assistance with citizenship applications, free tax preparation, Maryland driver’s license applications, and related support services to ensure a successful experience. In addition, the IIP collaborates with the Organizing and Policy departments to advance legislation and expand benefits at the federal, state, and local levels.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Immigrant Integration Services Coordinator implements We Are CASA’s Citizenship Maryland Program, Financial Education Program, Tax Preparation Program, and Citizenship Class instruction. Responsibilities include training volunteers in citizenship, financial education, and tax preparation; assigning and reviewing their caseloads; scheduling citizenship classes and clinics for We Are CASA members; and ensuring that all participants and taxpayers receive high-quality service.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perfome quality review to citizenship and other applications prepared by We Are CASA volunteers and other staff members.
  • Coordinate the team of VITA Site Coordinators to ensure a successful Tax Season

  • Ensure data collection and recording in salesforce, as required by donors and specified in internal policies and procedures
  • Develop volunteer opportunities, recruit, and train volunteers as well as pro-bono attorneys to support daily tasks and citizenship clinic events or other related activities
  • Support Program Manager on maintaining partnership with key stakeholders and developing new ones.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE
  • High School or GED. Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
  • Valid DOJ/BIA Accreditatio, or a commitment to fulfill all requirements necessary to obtain accreditation within six (6) months of the hiring date.
  • Valid VITA Advanced-Level Tax Preparer and/or Site Coordinator certification, or a commitment to fulfill all requirements necessary to obtain certification within six (6) months of the hiring date.
  • Valid IRS Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA) designation, or a commitment to fulfill all requirements necessary to obtain the designation within six (6) months of the hiring date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Excellent English Writing and Speaking skills.
  • Some demonstrated experience preparing and/or reviewing citizenship applications (N-400 USCIS form) and green card renewals (I-90 USCIS Form);
  • Some experience preparing tax returns or volunteering at a VITA Site, with a valid IRS certification as a Site Manager level, or advanced tax preparer.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/French is a plus
  • Have a valid DOJ-BIA accreditation with We are CASA (or, if the accreditation was obtained with another organization, willignes to apply to revalidate it with We are CASA in a three months period.) If the candidate does not have a DOJ-BIA accreditation, the candidate should commit to fullfill all requirements to apply for one within six (6) months of the hiring date.
  • Have a valid IRS’s CAA status. If the candidate does not have a CAA accreditation, the candidate should commit to fullfill all requirements to apply for one within six (6) months of the hiring date.The IRS requires the individual to be in good standing with their income tax filing and payments.
  • Ability to maintain a database and high comfort level with computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn other needed computer programs.
  • Demostrated understating of Financial education and the naturalization process
  • Familiarity with AmeriCorps preferred. AmeriCorps Alum is a plus.
  • Highly organized and able to lead multiple ongoing projects.
  • Deep commitment to social change and to growing We Are CASA as a membership organization in which members have decision-making authority.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated success and passion in working with families of different backgrounds, and the immigrant population with limited formal education.

COMPENSATION

$48,000 - $56,454

  • All full time and part time permanent positions working 20 hours or more per week.
