Job summary

DREAM Charter High School in Bronx, NY seeks Youth Workers to assist club leaders in daily after-school activities for high school students, including sports, social-emotional learning, enrichment and academic support.

Ideal candidates are 18+, hold a high school diploma, and bring energy, warmth and patience. This part-time, in-person role offers $17.50–$18.00 per hour with potential for annual increases and advancement through DREAM programs.

Qualifications

  • Distribute snack and materials effectively and efficiently.
  • Support the facilitation of positive, safe student transitions throughout the school.
  • Supervise groups of students during transitional times, such as student athletes waiting to depart for away games.
  • Support with homework completion and other academic enrichment.
  • Support club attendance and collecting rosters; model professionalism through attendance and preparation.
  • Manage youth behavior using positive youth development strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Support the summer bridge program and attend trips for up to 30 rising freshmen.

Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of seven PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. DREAM (formerly Harlem RBI) is seeking dynamic individuals toserve as Youth Workers in our high school program.

The Youth Worker will assist club leaders in leading a group of students daily in activities including sports, social-emotional learning, enrichment, and academic support programming.

  • Assist club leaders in leading a group of high school students in daily after‑school activities including sports, social‑emotional learning, enrichment and academic support;

  • Support with homework completion and other academic enrichment;

  • Model and encourage positive participation in all daily activities;
  • Model professionalism through consistent attendance, timeliness and preparation;
  • Manage youth behavior at all times using positive youth development strategies;
  • Using a restorative approach to manage student behaviors
  • Support summer bridge program, facilitating activities and attending trips for up to 30 rising freshmen;
  • Other duties as assigned
  • 18 years of age or older by the start date for the role;
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Experience working successfully with teenagers in a classroom or other youth development setting, strongly preferred;
  • Experience with behavior management, including positive youth development, preferred;
  • Exhibits high energy, warmth, enthusiasm and patience in working with youth;
  • Ability to quickly problem‑solve in the moment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families;
  • Comfort with technology and ability to use common platforms, including Zoom and Google Suite (Gmail and Gchat);
  • Eagerness to grow professionally, including openness to receiving and implementing feedback;
  • Flexibility: willing and able to shift tasks and priorities as needed;
  • Belief in the mission and outcomes of DREAM, including the importance of social emotional competency and advocacy for self and others;
  • Ability to work during the program hours;
  • Must be able to work in person at the program site;

The salary rate for incoming Youth Workers is $17.50 to $18.00 per hour. Initial compensation is determined based on relevant youth‑facing experience. Youth Workers are eligible for annual compensation increases based on tenure, in accordance with DREAM’s compensation practices. Compensation for Youth Workers who continue their employment with DREAM may exceed the incoming range band above.
