Job Summary
The Software Project Manager III provides support and technical expertise to the Daifuku Intralogistics Project Management team. Additionally, this role is responsible for executing projects as Software Project Manager of Warehouse Controls Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Execution Systems (WES). During project execution, Software Project Management utilizes a matrix organization by following the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Responsibilities
- Project Management
- Thoroughly understand project scopes and requirements.
- Read and analyze Scope of Work/RFQ/Proposal and Estimated Cost to perform initial gap analysis for high‑level software schedule.
- Provide software project management expertise for material‑handling automation projects involving a wide variety of equipment, machines, and technologies.
- Plan, execute, and complete material handling equipment projects through the software development life cycle.
- Act as main point of contact for external customers to plan and manage implementation project tasks.
- Obtain information, deliverables, and approvals from clients.
- Maintain contact with client representatives to respond to requests.
- Coordinate and plan with project teams and customers to write and execute the Business Requirement Document (BRD) and accompanying UML diagrams.
- Plan development hardware and network requirements with the Software Team and client.
- Plan testing lifecycles (Internal QA, Conference Room Pilot, Factory Acceptance Testing, On‑Site Commissioning, User Acceptance Testing) and requirements.
- Coordinate on‑site activities and Go‑Live support.
- Plan roadmap strategy for products developed by the Software Engineering Group.
- Follow established workflows and processes.
- Use project management tools to manage internal and external resources.
- Adhere to implementation guidelines and standards.
- Raise project issues and risks; communicate to stakeholders.
- Oversee implementation resources, timing, budget, and quality.
- Ensure successful transition of clients from implementation to go‑live.
- Support project closure and client acceptance.
- Manage WCS Software Project Portfolio within Project Web App.
- Analyze WCS Software Resources to identify risk, modifications, and improvements.
- Support overall project management team, managing schedule, budget, installation plan, punch list, and risk assessment.
- Create and maintain documented project schedule, in‑scope deliverables, changelog, action items, issues, and risk log.
- Manage project financials, including budget, forecasting, change requests, and monthly reports.
- Communicate project status verbally and in writing to customers and internal teams.
- Deliver solutions within budgets and aggressive timelines following company standards.
- Attend project and client meetings, take notes, and coordinate next steps.
- Coordinate with Corporate Services for project entry, billing, invoicing, and acceptance.
- Coordinate payment terms and keep subcontractors and vendors qualified.
- Work within a geographically diverse, matrixed organization.
- Develop request‑for‑quotation templates and review subcontractors’ RFQs for completeness.
- Work Independence & Collaboration
- Analyze problems, generate, implement solutions, and assess success.
- Build department reports on financials, status, and team meetings.
- Prepare and present vital information to clients and stakeholders with minimal support.
- Improve and maintain efficient, profitable operations that deliver high quality services.
- Promote solutions that benefit business, client, and team.
- Travel up to 30% (typically during Definition, Conference Room Pilot, User Acceptance Testing, and Go‑Live).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 4–7 years of related experience.
- Experience in the material handling industry, warehouse distribution, and warehouse automation.
- Knowledge of materials handling, WMS, WCS, WES, order fulfillment, distribution center operations, and supply‑chain logistics with software emphasis.
- Knowledge of complex warehousing functions: Receiving, Order Fulfillment, Shipping, Picking, Replenishment, Buffering, Order Management, Inventory; understand database, server, and network requirements supporting warehouse functions.
- Led project management of several small‑, medium‑, and large‑size automation projects.
- Knowledge of automation projects involving machines, robotics, controls, and software.
- Understanding of automated storage and retrieval systems, conveyor systems, and PLC communication.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (Define, Design, Development, QA, Implementation, UAT, Training, Turnover to Support).
- Experience with Agile or Waterfall methodologies; able to plan high‑level and detailed milestone schedules; report progress, risk, delays, and mitigation plans.
- Knowledge of Team Foundation Server and SharePoint version control; used task‑driven systems like Jira or Work Items.
- Business practices and project management knowledge: risk mitigation, scheduling, negotiation, and autonomous customer relationship management.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities; pay attention to detail, deadlines; work weekends and evenings as required.
- Strong organization, collaboration, analytical, problem‑solving, communication (verbal and written), listening, and presentation skills.
- Technically savvy with Microsoft tools (Word, Visio, Excel, Project), and general Microsoft Office.
