Job Summary

The Senior Controls Engineer I designs control systems for industrial material handling solutions. Responsibilities include developing specifications, device layout drawings, control schematics, PLC logic, and solutions that deliver customer value. Works closely with the project team to design systems meeting project requirements, using creativity and innovation to tailor standard products. Leads large projects and directs team members, performing duties with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the conception and design of products that add value and meet customer and market needs.
  • Collaborate with the development team to develop products.
  • Ensure products fit with current and future manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure products meet performance and cost demands.
  • Specify and develop sequences of operations for automated equipment.
  • Prepare schematics and specifications for control panel fabrication.
  • Develop Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs.
  • Maintain development schedules and cost estimates.
  • Follow engineering standards and best practices, including software revision control.
  • Perform prototype development and testing.
  • Conduct on-site beta testing to ensure safety, reliability, and performance metrics are met.
  • Investigate product issues in the field and determine root causes.
  • Domestic travel up to 40% within North America, mainly within the United States.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience with sortation, conveyance equipment, or robotics design required.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley control software and tools required.
  • Knowledge of electrical and safety codes, including risk assessments.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD systems such as EPlan.
  • Leadership ability and project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative mindset.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies.
  • Self-motivated and able to work non-traditional hours.
