Job summary

Daifuku-Intralogistics-America in Hobart, IN is seeking a Fabricator to operate fabrication and machine shop equipment to produce structural steel components for industrial automation. The role requires reading blueprints and exact measurements from tape measures, and aligning parts to precise tolerances.

You will follow Daifuku’s quality policies, perform basic machine maintenance, and work Monday through Friday on 1st shift from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm with overtime on Saturdays as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of related experience preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret measurements.
• Knowledge of standard and metric measurements.
• Quality assurance and self-inspection techniques.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
• Team-oriented with good communication.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Operate fabrication shop and machine shop machinery to cut, shape and bend metal.
• Read job specifications and blueprints to determine adjustments.
• Set stops or guides to specified length.
• Position workpiece against stops and align layout marks.
• Measure workpiece dimensions for accuracy.
• Detect defects and machine malfunctions.
• Remove burrs, rust, and scale from pieces.
• Perform basic machine maintenance like oiling equipment.
• Comply with Daifuku QMS policies and procedures.
• Support continuous improvement for quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Fabricator operates fabricating machines to create structural steel products used in industrial automation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Operating fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment, such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches, to cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures
• Reading job specifications and blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
• Setting stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template
• Positioning workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade
• Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
• Detects workpiece defects and machine malfunctions
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, and scale from workpiece
• Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, die, or workpieces
• Employees are responsible for complying with all requirements of Daifuku’s QMS policies and procedures.
• Employees are to ensure sustainable process outputs that drive continuous improvement to provide leading industry performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum 1 year of related experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

• Ability to read blueprints
• Knowledge of standard and metric measurements
• Knowledge of quality assurance and self-inspection techniques

• LOTO certification required
• Crane operation certification required
• Forklift operation experience preferred but not required
• Availability to work on Saturdays as needed
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language

ADA Requirements:

• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
• Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
• Visual: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
