Office Assistants support the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) with daily operations, administrative tasks, event programming and community building to further the Office of Student Engagement’s mission to connect with students.

Summary of Essential Functions

Support Office of Student Engagement (OSE) daily operations. Design and facilitate programming on behalf of the Office of Student Engagement (OSE). Attend biweekly Office Assistant team meetings and biweekly 1-on-1s with the Program Coordinator. Manage OSE’s social media accounts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend training and professional development programs.
  • Staff OSE front desk.
  • Communicate effectively via GChat.
  • Field and coordinate adequate correspondence from other offices, visitors or students.
  • Answer front desk calls.
  • Enforce posting policy around campus, including hanging/removing posters and flyers.
  • Gather reserveable equipment for pick-up and coordinate returns.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the OSE office.
  • Plan, create and post social media posts for OSE social media.
  • Design marketing materials for office initiatives or events.
  • Represent OSE at campus events via tabling or presentations.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of reservable equipment.
  • Assist in preparation and facilitation of other events as needed.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining the MICA Clubhouse.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators and teammates, via email and in-person.

  • Ability to work independently on tasks.
  • Ability to consider the diverse needs and interests of the MICA student body, and address these through intentional and thoughtful programming.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
Minimum qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
  • A desire to serve the MICA community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous prior graphic design and social media management experience preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience preferred.
  • Prior administrative task experience preferred.
  • Prior event planning/programming experience preferred.
Compensation

$15.00/hour

Conditions of Employment

Office Assistants are expected to work around 10 hours per week from the start to the end of the MICA semester (about 16 weeks).

Required training
  • Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
