Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA seeks an IIRC Data Coordinator III to support oncology clinical trials by collecting, abstracting, and coding clinical data from medical and research records. You will ensure data quality, timely entry, and compliance across multiple studies.

The role collaborates with faculty, providers, and research staff, supporting a large portfolio and evolving requirements. Partial campus and remote work options are available.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS, or two-year degree in the medical field.
  • Three years of experience in medical records, cancer registry, or related field.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with data entry and databases.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, abstract, and code complex clinical data from multiple sources for research subjects.
  • Code and record data into study-specific electronic data-capture systems.
  • Extract Adverse Events (AEs) from the EHR and review with Principal Investigators.
  • Coordinate SAE follow-up in the database with study team.
  • Resolve data queries with minimal errors.
  • Request medical records from outside facilities.
  • Track and maintain research patient schedules per protocol requirements.
  • Identify database discrepancies and escalate deviations.
  • Serve as liaison to physicians, investigators, and staff on data collection and procedures.
  • Coordinate quality control reviews for audits and data locks.
  • Participate in committees regarding data quality assurance for audits and DSMB.
  • Contribute to EDC database design, build and testing.
  • Provide input to department policies and goals.

The IIRC Data Coordinator III works within a multidisciplinary team that supports oncology clinical trials conducted within the Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium. The position is responsible for collecting and abstracting clinical data from medical records and research charts, ensuring data quality and timeliness. The team supports a large and diverse portfolio of clinical trials and this position will work in close collaboration with faculty, providers and research staff across multiple disease areas. This position must be able to work independently on multiple research projects, demonstrate attention to detail and strong organizational skills. This position reports directly to the IIRC Data Team Manager in the Fred Hutch central clinical trials office, Clinical Research Support (CRS).

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the research team and providers to collect, abstract, and code complex clinical data and information from multiple sources (medical records, research records, etc.) for research subjects.
  • Code and record data into various study-specific electronic data-capture systems.
  • Extract Adverse Events (AEs) from the EHR and review with Principal Investigators.
  • Partner with others on the study team to conduct Serious Adverse Event (SAE) follow-up in the database.
  • Resolve and answer data queries with minimal errors.
  • Request medical records from outside medical facilities.
  • Track and maintain research patient schedules based on complex protocol-specific requirements, and work with clinics and research team members to ensure subject research assessments are planned for required/appropriate time points.
  • Proactively identify database discrepancies, work stoppage issues, adherence to protocol, and investigating any deviation and escalating appropriately.
  • Serve as a liaison and reference resource to Physicians, Investigators, other staff members, and other organizations with questions about data collection or protocol procedures and requirements.
  • Coordinate quality control reviews by appointed agencies or Investigators.
  • Participate in committees regarding data quality assurance for audits, database locks, DSMB, and interim data analyses.
  • Participate in EDC database design, build and testing.
  • Provide input to support policies and goals of the department.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS, or two-year degree in the medical field.
  • Three years of experience in medical records, cancer registry, or related field.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with data entry and databases.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Medical terminology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in oncology research or oncology clinical settings.
  • Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards for clinical research.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Epic/EMR systems.
  • Experience with iMedidata Rave/EDC systems.
  • Ability to independently manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
