Job description

IIoT Architect (Remote with travel possible once a month)

Duration: 6 months with chance of extension

Preferred Location: Remote with travel possible once a month

Role Description:

Lead the strategic planning, architecture, and governance for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) across manufacturing operations. Drive integration of IIoT with MES, cloud, and enterprise systems to enable data-driven automation, predictive maintenance, and operational intelligence.

Develop long-term IIoT strategies and phased roadmaps aligned with digital transformation goals. Define KPIs and ensure business value from IIoT initiatives.

Standards & Governance:

Establish and enforce standards for IIoT connectivity, device management, data security, and compliance (e.g., NIST, ISA-95, IEC 62443).

Design scalable data frameworks using Azure and real-time processing tools. Enable AI/ML for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and dynamic manufacturing.

Predictive & Autonomous Manufacturing:

Leverage IIoT for condition-based maintenance and real-time production optimization using intelligent automation.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

Collaborate with IT, OT, data science, and operations. Manage vendor partnerships and advise leadership on IIoT maturity and ROI.

Security & Compliance:

Implement secure architectures, access controls, and device lifecycle policies. Ensure OT/IT convergence with industry best practices.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in IIoT architectures, including edge computing, sensor networks, and industrial protocols.
  • Strong understanding of OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, and real-time streaming frameworks.
  • Experience designing connected factory environments and enabling real-time process visibility.
  • Experience and strong understanding of Operations Technology Systems, PLCs, Tag data, historians, HMI's.
  • Knowledge of AVEVA and Induction a plus.

AI/ML:

Experience with predictive models and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Azure ML).

Cybersecurity:

Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443, NIST CSF, and secure IIoT architectures, including the Purdue Model.
