Summary of Position

The individual will be responsible for various duties within the HIS/IHC laboratory, including delivering completed cases to the medical team, assisting with slide preparation (labeling slides, removing/organizing after staining), and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Key Job Elements

1. Assist with the organization and delivery of cases to the medical team or for return to clients.
2. Prepare cases for sectioning, including matching specimen IDs, pulling controls, and labeling slides.
3. Assist with QC of slides and labels, and prepare stained slides for review.
4. Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, including waste disposal, filling fluids, and cleaning.
5. Monitor inventory and restock supplies as needed.
6. Maintain laboratory records and documentation per procedures and policies.
7. Follow safety and biohazard procedures, dispose of wastes properly.
8. Ensure compliance with quality control policies and applicable laws.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent.

Working Conditions

The lab environment involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals such as formaldehyde and xylene, and requires adherence to safety protocols. Moderate standing and lifting of approximately 25 lbs are required.
