Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain casting furnaces.
  • Coordinate job numbers with correct alloy, weight, and temperature per PMS.
  • Ensure charges identified and matched to numbers and lot routers.
  • Transport ingots to the work unit using a hoist and load into boxes/charge boxes.
  • Handle molds from pre-heat to casting furnace; monitor gauges and pour speed.
  • Determine proper pump down time to prescribed vacuum levels; monitor temperatures.
  • Replace crucibles and pack crucibles using grog per best practices.
  • Record unit temperatures and signal when to remove molds from preheat.
  • Clean and remove metal from splash guards and furnace; comply with attendance policies and overtime.

Howmet is currently looking for a DS Casting Tech(s) to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia.

This position will receive an hourly “shift premium” of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary: The DS Casting Tech operates casting furnaces within allowable guidelines, schedules work by coordinating job and correct alloy, records and monitors all furnace melting process information, and follows schedules and completes work as required.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:

  • Operators and maintains casting furnaces.
  • Coordinates job numbers with correct alloy, weight, and temperature per PMS.
  • Ensures that charges are properly identified and corresponded to appropriate numbers and lot routers.
  • Transports ingots of alloy to work unit utilizing hoist to lift to specific areas and load into chamber box/charge box.
  • Handles molds from pre-heat furnace to casting furnace.
  • Monitors gauges to assure correct settings, accurate pour speed and appropriate crucible size for melting process.
  • Determines accurate pump down time to prescribed vacuum levels.
  • Replaces crucibles/packs crucibles using grog according to best practices.
  • Records temperature at unit and signals team operators to remove mold from preheat.
  • Cleans and removes all metal from splash guards, crucible blocks, and furnace.
  • Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but not limited to, regular attendance and assigned overtime.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • An application must include a resume and two professional references for review and consideration.
  • This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Applicants must have at least 2 years of continuous related manufacturing experience or training. Recent high school or college graduates without prior work experience must provide a letter of recommendation.
  • Problem solving and mechanical aptitude and abilities.
  • Availability for all shifts is necessary. The ability to work overtime and weekends is required as schedules may vary based on operational needs; flexibility is essential.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A basic understanding of industrial and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
