Job summary

The Maryland School for the Blind seeks a dedicated aide to assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized educational programs (IEPs) and curricular activities.

Under supervision, you will support data collection, prepare instructional materials, and help students with personal care, mobility, and use of assistive technology such as augmentative devices, computers and iPads.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of an Associate Degree, 48 college credits, or a ParaPro Assessment.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Basic knowledge of special education classroom principles and practices.
• Experience instructing students with severe and profound disabilities preferred.
• Basic knowledge of orthopedically disabled children and related equipment preferred.
• Comprehensive knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
• Ability to push/pull >100 pounds and lift >50 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with development and implementation of classroom instruction including curricular programs, data collection, and materials creation.
• Assist teacher in developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs.
• Assist students with personal hygiene tasks and toileting.
• Supervise student activities, including pool activities.
• Assist students with travel skills and concept development.
• Program and use augmentative communication devices.
• Use computers and iPads.
• Provide vocational job coaching.
