- Software Developer II — CSU Classification Range: $6,492 – $9,458 (Step 1-Step 20); Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,492-$6,890 (Step 1–4).
- Software Developer III — CSU Classification Range: $7,284 - $10,611 (Step 1 – Step 20); Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,284 - $7,578 (Step 1-3).
- Final salary placement is commensurate with experience, internal equity, and budget considerations.
- This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Application Development Department.

As a member of the Identity Management (IDM) team in Information Technology Services, the incumbent applies professional software development knowledge to design, develop, test, maintain, and support campus identity lifecycle services, directory platforms, and related system integrations.
Primary responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing the campus identity management platform (Fischer), enterprise directories such as Active Directory and OpenLDAP, and downstream systems provisioned through IDM processes, including Google Workspace. The position develops and modifies workflows, scripts, database‑driven processes, and integrations that support identity provisioning, de‑provisioning, synchronization, authentication, and access management services, including SAML‑based single sign‑on and multi‑factor authentication.
The incumbent works independently on day‑to‑day assignments, collaborates with the IDM team, ITS, and campus partners to understand business needs and defined requirements, troubleshoots moderately complex system and integration issues, and implements operational changes in alignment with campus procedures, security practices, system stability needs, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain, configure, and improve identity management‑related systems, including Fischer and connected directory platforms.
- Support and troubleshoot identity and directory services across Active Directory, OpenLDAP, Entra ID, Google Workspace, and related systems.
- Support identity management processes that provide identity and access information to authentication and access management services, including CAS, SAML‑based single sign‑on, Microsoft Entra ID, and multi‑factor authentication services.
- Analyze and resolve identity and directory service incidents, service requests, workflow errors, synchronization issues, and access‑related problems across multiple systems.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve identity provisioning and de‑provisioning workflows to support accurate and timely account lifecycle management.
- Monitor identity synchronization processes, resolve data and group membership discrepancies, and ensure accurate account and entitlement information.
- Document system configurations, operational procedures, recurring issues, and resolutions to support continuity of service and knowledge sharing.
- (Software Developer III, in addition) Develop, recommend, and implement password, account, access, and directory policies in alignment with institutional standards, security practices, compliance requirements, and operational needs; independently analyze and resolve complex identity and directory service issues spanning multiple systems.
- Design, develop, test, document, and maintain PL/SQL and related database‑driven processes that support identity lifecycle operations.
- Develop and modify workflows, scripts, connectors, interfaces, and automation processes to support identity provisioning, de‑provisioning, synchronization, reporting, and audit needs.
- Design and maintain database structures, queries, and procedures that support identity management applications, integrations, and data integrity.
- Modify existing workflows, integrations, and connectors to accommodate changing business requirements and improve reliability, security, and efficiency.
- Debug and update code to resolve workflow, data, and integration issues; follow ITS change management procedures.
- Contribute to automation of routine identity management tasks, including account cleanup, auditing, reporting, and other recurring operational processes.
- (Software Developer III, in addition) Analyze complex requirements and design improvements to identity management workflows, integrations, database logic, and automation processes; independently diagnose and resolve complex code, workflow, data, and integration issues.
- Collaborate with ITS teams and campus partners to gather requirements, understand business needs, evaluate desired functionality, and identify appropriate technical solutions.
- Evaluate existing and proposed identity management processes, integrations, and system changes; develop technical specifications, workflow documentation, and implementation notes.
- Provide technical programming support and guidance to ITS staff and campus partners regarding assigned systems and IDM‑related processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and process documentation.
- (Software Developer III, in addition) Lead analysis of complex or cross‑functional IDM initiatives; provide technical consultation and recommendations on IDM architecture, integrations, workflows, and access lifecycle processes.

- Working knowledge of software development principles, concepts, frameworks, tools, and methodologies (including designing workflows, diagrams, and schematics).
- Ability to write code, analyze requirements, and troubleshoot software application issues.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate user and business needs and design, develop, and implement solutions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences and collaborate with users and stakeholders.

- Working knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL or another procedural SQL language, such as T‑SQL or PL/pgSQL.
- Working knowledge of relational database structures, including schema design, queries, stored procedures, and data integrity concepts.
- Knowledge of enterprise directory services such as Active Directory, OpenLDAP, Entra ID, Google Workspace, or comparable platforms.
- Knowledge of data integration methods, connectors, interfaces, scripting, and automation techniques used to support identity lifecycle processes.
- Knowledge of security practices, data privacy requirements, and compliance expectations, including FERPA and other applicable regulatory standards.
Software Developer III requires all of the above at an advanced level, plus advanced knowledge of relational database structures, enterprise directory services, authentication workflows, identity lifecycle management, and data integration methods, and advanced ability to design, troubleshoot, optimize, and improve related workflows, integrations, and automation.
- Software Developer II: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis; an advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Software Developer III: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, with the same substitution provisions as above.
- Experience with Oracle packages such as UTL_HTTP, DBMS_LDAP, or comparable database utilities.
- Experience with Oracle Application Express (APEX) development.
- Familiarity/experience with SSO integrations such as CAS, SAML, and OAuth2.
- Experience working in higher education or large enterprise environments.
- Familiarity/experience with Microsoft Entra ID identity management features.
- Familiarity/experience with Evolveum Midpoint identity management features.
- Familiarity/experience with Fischer Identity software.
