Job summary

The IDB Group seeks an active undergraduate student for the Winter Internship Program in Washington, DC, to learn about development work and laboratory management. This paid internship runs January 16th to March 15th, 2027, based at HQ, with on-the-job learning and exposure to multiple technologies.

Eligible candidates are undergraduates in CS/DS/SE with English fluency and some knowledge of another Bank language.

Qualifications

  • Active undergraduate student in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Citizen of an IDB member country.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Strong collaboration, communication and client-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in programming and basic software development tooling (GitHub/GitLab).
  • Experience with debugging, data structures and algorithms, and basic math/statistics.

About this position

The IDB Group is looking for an active undergraduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

What you’ll do
  • Integrate and connect different laboratory tools and systems.
  • Develop clear documentation and tutorials for laboratory projects.
  • Build demonstrations that showcase how multiple technologies work together.
  • Develop benchmarking frameworks to evaluate and compare different technical approaches.
  • Create educational materials to communicate the laboratory’s projects, tools, and results.
What you'll need
  • Education: An active undergraduate student in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or related from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Key Skills: learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
  • Soft Skills:Results-driven, team-oriented, inclusive, collaborative, innovative, and client-oriented, with strong self-motivation, eagerness to learn, and excellenttime managementand communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Technical skills:
    • Programming: Ability to write clean, functional code in at least one programming language
    • Version Control: Familiarity with Git and GitHub/GitLab, including commits, branching, and pull requests
    • Problem Solving: Ability to break down complex technical problems into manageable steps
    • Debugging: Ability to use debugging tools, logging, and systematic reasoning to identify and resolve errors
    • Data Structures and Algorithms: Familiarity with arrays, linked lists, sorting, searching, and basic complexity analysis
    • Basic Mathematics and Statistics: Familiarity with linear algebra, probability, and calculus, depending on the laboratory’s focus
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Be a national of an IDB member country.
  • Active student: Enrolled in an undergraduate (bachelor’s) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
  • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.
