Job Summary And Qualifications

Under the direction of department leadership, provides high-quality, cost-effective nursing care, meeting the medical, psycho/social, spiritual, emotional, and educational needs of OR patients. Primarily responsible for preparing patients for surgical and endoscopy procedures, and assisting during surgery. Performs assessments, planning, procedures/treatments, evaluations, and updates of patient care plans to ensure high-quality care. Provides nursing care consistent with established policies, protocols, and standards, acting as a patient/family advocate to ensure appropriate care and protect patients' rights. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing general nursing duties and competency in all OR procedures.
  • Facilitating smooth room turnover and patient flow.
  • Completing all paperwork and charting accurately and timely.
  • Anticipating and meeting the needs of the surgeon based on experience.
  • Counting all sponges, needles, and instruments with the OR Tech, and managing discrepancies according to policies.
  • Facilitating communication between patient, surgeon, OR staff, family, and other departments.
  • Following safety and security policies, including hand hygiene, universal precautions, PPE, and isolation procedures.
  • Maintaining professionalism under pressure.
Qualifications include:
  • Current Idaho RN License.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS/ACLS) certifications within 90 days of hire; PALS preferred.
  • 1-2 years general nursing experience preferred; minimum 6 months perioperative experience required.
