Qualifications

• 1+ year of recent experience in this specialty and setting
• Valid nursing license as required by this state
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through AHA recommended and may be required
• Specialty-related certifications are preferred and may be required

Responsabilités

• ICU nurses specialize in treating critically ill patients in general intensive care units, post-op units, burn units, and other specialized, intensive care units
• Most Critical Care travel positions are in hospitals, but ICU RNs can choose from many different subspecialties
• Some rehabilitation facilities also use critical care nurses because of their skills with ventilators and tracheostomy tubes
• An important function of Critical Care nurses is to provide education and support to patients and their families
