Job summary

The NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland seeks an experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse to provide safe, high-acuity patient care on a full-time contract. This opportunity may lead to long-term or permanent employment based on performance and staffing needs.

Schedule: full-time 36 hours per week with rotating day and night shifts; weekend and holiday coverage as needed. Salary: $90,000–$100,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Active RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
• Accredited nursing degree (ADN/ Diploma/ BSN) required
• NCLEX-RN successful completion required
• 2–3 years of current critical-care nursing experience in an acute-care hospital
• Current Basic Life Support certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
• Demonstrated competency in intensive-care nursing
• Effective English communication skills
• Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients
• Perform comprehensive and ongoing critical-care assessments
• Continuously monitor patients and respond to changes in condition
• Manage patients requiring advanced monitoring, complex medication regimens, and life-support therapies
• Administer medications, titratable infusions, blood products, and treatments as ordered
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, labs, hemodynamic data, and other information
• Recognize emergencies and initiate ACLS protocols
• Operate critical-care equipment safely and verify alarms
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
• Educate and support patients and families
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other team members
• Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, and patient-safety requirements
• Participate in orientation, training, and competency activities
• Float to other critical-care areas as needed within competency
