Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care in the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center's Specialty Care unit.

The role covers a full range of clinical procedures for respiratory support in ambulatory and ICU settings. The position requires active RRT licensure, CoARC-accredited training, and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a respiratory care program accredited by CoARC or successor.
• Must possess and maintain an active RRT credential in good standing.
• Must hold and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as an RRT.

Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapies to ambulatory and critically ill patients.
• Perform arterial blood gas analysis and interpret results with physician input.
• Manage airway procedures including artificial airways and mechanical ventilation under supervision when applicable.
• Monitor and adjust ventilator patients based on blood gas trends with medical oversight.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Document patient responses and therapy progress in medical records.
• Participate in continuous education and professional development.
