Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit on a full-time night shift. The RN will perform comprehensive assessments, develop and adjust care plans, and coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.

You will document patient progress, educate families, and participate in discharge planning, upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

• BSN degree required.
• Current IL RN license.
• BLS certification.
• ADN acceptable with commitment to obtain BSN within three years.

Responsibilities

• According to hospital and unit specific guidelines and standards of practice, completes an assessment for each assigned patient reflecting age specific physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental variables affecting the patient.
• Recognizes signs of abuse/neglect and assesses patient/family educational needs, abilities, learning preferences, and readiness to learn.
• Anticipates potential problems including disease, adjustment to disease, complications, knowledge deficits, discharge needs, and family support.
• Develops and updates nursing plan of care based on patient assessment and input from interdisciplinary team and family; includes education and discharge planning.
• Initiates and coordinates communication with physicians and healthcare providers; reports observations and reactions regarding patient/family/significant others.
• Assesses response to treatment, analyzes symptoms, and initiates appropriate nursing interventions.
• Prioritizes care needs and readjusts priorities with changing patient status.
• Participates in discharge planning from admission with patient teaching and referrals.
• Follows Standards of Care and OSHA policies; documents and applies safe care practices.
• Administers medications and treatments safely and educates patient/family about medications.
• Provides pain management and emotional support to patient and family.
• Coordinates patient activities with other departments and community agencies.
