Job summary

MedVet is seeking a Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician to join our fast-growing emergency and specialty team in New Orleans. You will support patient care, assist with anesthesia and monitoring, and educate clients on treatments and home care.

The role requires prior veterinary experience, strong calculations skills, and excellent communication in a fast-paced hospital environment. On-site, full-time position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred but not required.
• Prior veterinary experience required; nursing or critical care experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions).
• Flexible hours; may require additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds; discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with the care team on treatment plans and client communication.

We are looking for: Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:
