Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the inpatient unit on the 8 South Radius ICU. The role provides practical nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician in a 12-bed medical-surgical ICU serving acute and chronic adults.

Requirements include Virginia LPN licensure, AHA BLS-HCP certification, and successful completion of orientation and competency assessments.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required.
• Experience: None.
• Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• De-escalation training required within 4 months of hire for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health roles and must be maintained thereafter.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Must be able to meet essential job functions. Additional experience or certifications may be required based on service line.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the nursing process, including data collection, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
• Contributes to the development and implementation of individualized interdisciplinary plans of care.
• Identifies patient, family, and caregiver educational needs and incorporates education into the plan of care.
• Implements prescribed treatments and therapeutic interventions.
• Administers medications in accordance with provider orders and scope of practice.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to deliver age-appropriate care.
• Advocates for patients and supports their rights, providing psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Supports performance improvement initiatives and contributes to quality outcomes.
• Participates in orientation and development of new staff.
• Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to service excellence.
• Supports organizational mission, vision, and values and complies with all policies and procedures.
