Hayden Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center, a tertiary care teaching hospital in central Phoenix with a 24-hour Emergency Department, a 24-bed ICU, and inpatient medicine, surgery, and psychiatry services supporting Veterans across Arizona. Working 12-hour day or night tours (6:30AM - 7:00PM or 6:30PM - 7:00AM), you will provide hands-on personal care and support to critically ill Veterans under the direction of registered nurses, including bathing, repositioning, skin care, vital signs, intake and output, glucose checks, and assistance with mobility and nutrition. GhostRx is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that places clinicians at VA and federal healthcare facilities nationwide. Our contract clinicians work side by side with VA staff, are supported by a credentialing team that handles the federal onboarding process, and serve the Veterans who served us. This role suits a CNA with acute care or ICU experience who is comfortable with monitored patients, ventilated patients, and fast-changing conditions. Phoenix, Arizona offers more than 300 days of sunshine a year, a lower cost of living than most major West Coast metros, no shortage of hiking, golf, and outdoor recreation, and one of the fastest-growing healthcare job markets in the country.

Qualification and Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status required to perform services under this federal contract
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team; basic computer literacy required
  • Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program and current CNA certification; Arizona CNA certification preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of CNA experience, with acute care hospital or ICU experience strongly preferred
  • Competency in vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, intake and output, patient repositioning, and safe patient handling equipment
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients and to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Must pass a test-based clinical competency assessment prior to submission and provide professional references with current contact information
  • Ability to successfully complete a federal background investigation, fingerprinting, and VA credentialing package, including primary-source license verification
  • Documented immunizations and TB screening; annual privacy, information security, and bloodborne pathogen training required
  • Willingness to complete orientation and unit training during day shift hours before transitioning to the assigned tour
  • Ability to work 12-hour day or night tours, including weekends and federal holidays as scheduled
Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to ICU Veterans, including bathing, oral care, skin care, toileting, and repositioning every two hours to prevent pressure injuries
  • Obtain and record vital signs, weights, blood glucose readings, and intake and output and promptly report abnormal findings to the RN
  • Assist with patient mobility, ambulation, and transfers using lifts and safe patient handling techniques
  • Assist nursing staff with admissions, transfers, discharges, and post-mortem care
  • Support patients with meals, feeding, and hydration in accordance with dietary orders and aspiration precautions
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe patient environment and set up rooms and equipment for incoming patients
  • Perform constant observation (sitter) duties for patients at risk for falls, confusion, or self-harm when assigned
  • Float to other units within your competency and skill set when directed by nursing leadership
  • Document care accurately and in real time in the VA electronic health record (CPRS/VistA) and communicate patient status changes during shift report
