  • Knowledge of IBC, ACI, ASTM and applicable construction standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with mobile reporting software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and testing on commercial, residential, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
  • Inspect reinforcing steel, concrete placement, sampling, and related activities.
  • Conduct soils inspections including density testing and subgrade evaluations.
  • Document inspection activities and prepare daily reports.
  • Communicate findings to contractors, project managers, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Identify deficiencies and document non-conforming work.
  • Maintain certifications and stay current with codes and standards.
  • Coordinate inspection schedules with contractors and project teams.
  • Support lab operations and additional field testing as needed.

Job description

Fenagh Engineering & Testing provides special inspections, materials testing, and geotechnical engineering services for a wide array of private and public sector clients.

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented ICC Reinforced Concrete and ICC Soils Inspector to join our growing team in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will perform field inspections and testing services on commercial, residential, industrial, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with approved construction documents, project specifications, applicable building codes, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will possess current ICC certifications in Reinforced Concrete and Soils Special Inspection and demonstrate strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform special inspections in accordance with the International Building Code (IBC), project specifications, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Inspect reinforcing steel, concrete placement, concrete sampling, and related construction activities.
  • Conduct soils inspections including proof rolls, fill placement observations, density testing, and subgrade evaluations.
  • Verify compliance with approved plans, engineering reports, and construction specifications.
  • Perform field testing including nuclear density testing, moisture content testing, and other applicable geotechnical tests.
  • Document inspection activities and prepare detailed daily reports.
  • Communicate findings to contractors, project managers, engineers, and project stakeholders.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and provide clear documentation of non-conforming work.
  • Maintain inspection certifications and stay current with applicable codes and standards.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Coordinate inspection schedules with contractors and project teams.
  • Support laboratory operations and additional field testing as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector Certification required.
  • Current ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification required.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and structural plans.
  • Knowledge of IBC, ACI, ASTM, and applicable construction standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with mobile reporting software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications such as:
  • ICC Structural Masonry Inspector
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Inspector
  • ICC Welding Inspector
  • TxDOT Certifications
  • Experience with construction materials testing (CMT) and special inspections.
  • Knowledge of Austin-area permitting and development requirements.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing special inspections and/or construction materials testing.
  • Experience inspecting commercial, multifamily, educational, healthcare, industrial, or municipal projects preferred.
  • Experience working with engineers, contractors, and municipal inspectors.
