Job summary

Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is seeking a full-time ICC Certified Plans Examiner to join our building and safety team.

The candidate will review plans, calculations and specifications for conformance with current codes and municipal directions, and prepare plan review comment letters. The role involves communicating with clients via phone, email, or in-person meetings to clarify comments and ensure timely, accurate plan checks across commercial and residential projects.

Qualifications

• ICC Certified Plans Examiner with complete knowledge of International model building codes.
• 2+ years of experience performing plan checks for commercial & residential projects.
• Skilled with complete life safety review (B. P. M. & E.).
• Computer knowledge and basic word processing experience.
• High school diploma required; some college highly desirable.

Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is a privately held company providing professional Building and Safety Consulting Services to jurisdictions to verify conformance with all applicable Building Codes. We are seeking full-time, experienced ICC Certified Plans Examiner within California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, calculations and specifications for compliance with the most current adopted ordinances, laws, and state building codes.
• Preparation of plans review comment letter according to municipality direction and SCA standards.
• Meet and confer with the clients as-needed (via phone, email, virtual meeting or in-person) to clarify plan check comments.

Minimum Qualifications

• ICC Certified Plans Examiner with complete knowledge and full understanding of the International model building codes and standard construction methods.
• 2+ years of experience working for a jurisdiction providing plan check reviews for both commercial & residential
• Skilled with complete life safety review (B. P. M. & E.).
• Computer knowledge and basic word processing experience
• Must have a high school diploma; some college is highly desirable.
• Must have a valid Driver License.
• Must successfully complete standard background investigation.
