Job summary

Shums Coda Associates, Inc. seeks a full-time ICC Certified Plans Examiner to perform plan reviews for compliance with building codes across California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

The role involves reviewing plans, calculations and specifications, and preparing review letters per municipal direction and SCA standards. Responsibilities include client meetings to clarify comments and ensuring life safety review coverage.

Qualifications

• ICC Certified Plans Examiner with knowledge of IBC and construction methods.
• 2+ years of jurisdiction plan-check experience for commercial and residential.
• Life safety review knowledge (BPM&E).
• Computer literacy and word processing experience.
• High school diploma required; some college desirable.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Background investigation required.

Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is a privately held company providing professional Building and Safety Consulting Services to jurisdictions to verify conformance with all applicable Building Codes. We are seeking full-time, experienced ICC Certified Plans Examiner within California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, calculations and specifications for compliance with the most current adopted ordinances, laws, and state building codes.
• Preparation of plans review comment letter according to municipality direction and SCA standards.
• Meet and confer with the clients as-needed (via phone, email, virtual meeting or in-person) to clarify plan check comments.

Minimum Qualifications

• ICC Certified Plans Examiner with complete knowledge and full understanding of the International model building codes and standard construction methods.
• 2+ years of experience working for a jurisdiction providing plan check reviews for both commercial & residential
• Skilled with complete life safety review (B. P. M. & E.).
• Computer knowledge and basic word processing experience
• Must have a high school diploma; some college is highly desirable.
• Must have a valid Driver License.
• Must successfully complete standard background investigation.
