Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation invites applications for an internship conversion position at our El Segundo, CA facility. The successful candidate will work full-time on-site and contribute to technical analysis, modeling, and reporting for space systems.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in a relevant field (pursuing or recent), 0–1 year of experience with prior Aerospace internship, and proficiency with Python/C++. A security clearance is required, and relocation considerations may apply.

What You'll Be Doing

Independently plan and contribute to technical analysis projects. Exercise your expertise in understanding, modeling, and analyzing enterprise-level integrated missions. Use and contribute to the development of in-house and commercial/government-off-the-shelf engineering analysis tools and analysis products. Develop and deliver timely and technically accurate presentations and reports. Travel occasionally as required.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited college/university program in engineering (aerospace, astronautical, mechanical, or software), computer science, physics, operations research, or closely related technical field from an accredited school. (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • 0-1 year of industry experience
  • Prior internship with The Aerospace Corporation
  • Additional years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments.
  • Proficiency with the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Technical understanding of space operations, red vs blue simulations, military utility, threat phenomenologies, kill chain effectiveness, communications infrastructure, and/or command and control (C2).
  • Experience with multi-phenomenology remote sensing techniques, specifically EOIR, RF, and RADAR processing, for object detection, tracking, and characterization.
  • Experience with Python and/or C++.
  • Ability to work on dynamic assignments and evolving customer needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government.
  • U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Experience modeling the space domain in AFSIM and/or integrating external tools with AFSIM.
  • Knowledge of Intelligence Community, U.S. Department of Defense, and Department of the Air Force business practices and programs.
  • Current Top Secret/SCI Clearance with polygraph, and special programs access.

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
