Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA, invites applications for an internship conversion in the Structural Dynamics and Environments Department. You will work on on-site tasks within the Flight Loads Section to analyze launch vehicle and spacecraft loads across flight phases.

You will develop simulation tools, compare analytical predictions with flight data, and collaborate with teams across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months).
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis and other computational methods for the solution of problems in normal modes, transient and frequency domain analysis.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Fortran and/or NASTRAN programming language.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses and evaluations of launch vehicle and spacecraft loads for all phases of flight.
  • Conduct analyses and investigations to solve a broad range of structural dynamics problems requiring advanced treatment and/or coordination within the department and other technical disciplines.
  • Support a wide variety of launch and space programs in the defense and civil sectors. Provide technical support and expertise to program offices and external customers in the discipline of structural dynamics.
  • Develop simulation tools and processes to solve structural dynamics problems.
  • Evaluate analytical predictions versus flight sensor data to develop recommendations to improve loads analysis methods.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.
  • Training and mentorship will be provided.

Internship conversion position for the Structural Dynamics and Environments Department (SDED) within the Vehicle Systems Division (VSD). The position is being offered within the Flight Loads Section in SDED. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university program in aerospace engineering or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis and other computational methods for the solution of problems in normal modes, transient and frequency domain analysis
  • Familiarity in data processing and spectral analysis of dynamic signals
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Fortran and/or NASTRAN programming language
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
