Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an intern conversion candidate for the Structural Dynamics and Environments Department (SDED) in the Vehicle Systems Division. The role requires full-time, on-site work at our El Segundo, CA facility and offers exposure to launch vehicle and spacecraft loads analyses.

Preferred candidates hold a degree in aerospace engineering (or near completion) with internship experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's in aerospace engineering (or near completion within 12 months).
  • Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation is preferred.
  • 0–1 year of industry experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Familiarity with FE and computational methods for normal modes, transient and frequency domain analysis.
  • Familiarity with data processing and spectral analysis of dynamic signals.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Fortran and/or NASTRAN.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses of launch vehicles and spacecraft loads for all flight phases.
  • Conduct analyses to solve problems requiring coordination across disciplines.
  • Support various launch/space programs in defense and civil sectors.
  • Develop simulation tools to solve dynamic problems.
  • Evaluate predictions against flight data to improve methods.
  • Provide training and mentorship as needed.

Internship conversion position for the Structural Dynamics and Environments Department (SDED) within the Vehicle Systems Division (VSD). The position is being offered within the Flight Loads Section in SDED. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

Perform structural dynamic analyses and evaluations of launch vehicle and spacecraft loads for all phases of flight Conduct analyses and investigations to solve a broad range of structural dynamics problems requiring advanced treatment and/or coordination within the department and other technical disciplines Support a wide variety of launch and space programs in the defense and civil sectors. Provide technical support and expertise to program offices and external customers in the discipline of structural dynamics Develop simulation tools and processes to solve structural dynamics problems Evaluate analytical predictions versus flight sensor data to develop recommendations to improve loads analysis methods Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university program in aerospace engineering or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months) Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation 0-1 year of industry work experience MinimumGPA of3.0 Familiarity with finite element analysis and other computational methods for the solution of problems in normal modes, transient and frequency domain analysis Familiarity in data processing and spectral analysis of dynamic signals Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, Fortran and/or NASTRAN programming language This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
