Our Client, a long-established sports and outdoor retailer, seeks an experienced technology leader to provide technical leadership across IBM Sterling Order Management, Web Store, Call Center and inventory modules. You will design, develop, integrate, and optimize solutions across order management, fulfillment, and customer care while mentoring the team.

Ideal candidates have strong Java development experience and deep Sterling OMS expertise, with a track record of delivering full lifecycle

Qualifications

  • Five to seven or more years of IT experience.
  • Five+ years implementing Sterling OMS in retail.
  • Three+ years with IBM Sterling OMS Suite and SME level expertise.
  • Two full lifecycle implementations from requirements to optimization.
  • Lead SDLC activities including design, build, test, and implementation.
  • Hands-on Java and OMS development (SOA, XML/XSLT, REST, JSON).
  • Experience with estimation and team structuring in Agile.
  • Familiarity with IBM Sterling OMS v9.5 and/or v10.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and SQL databases.
  • Proficient with Eclipse, SoapUI; Jira/GitHub/Bitbucket familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across Sterling OMS, Web Store, Call Center and inventory modules.
  • Design and enhance order capture, sourcing, fulfillment, inventory visibility, payments and returns.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and document designs.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Sterling OMS and external systems.
  • Improve stability, performance, and scalability of OMS applications.
  • Conduct design and code reviews and promote best practices.
  • Research technologies and contribute to technical strategy.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA, product managers and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, implement sustainable solutions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Client is seeking an experienced technology professional to provide technical leadership across IBM Sterling Order Management, Web Store, Call Center, and inventory capabilities. This role will lead and contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle while designing, developing, integrating, and optimizing solutions that support order management, fulfillment, inventory visibility, payments, returns, and customer care processes. The successful candidate will bring deep IBM Sterling Order Management expertise, strong Java development experience, and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams while mentoring other team members and helping improve system stability, scalability, and development practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical leadership across Sterling Order Management, Web Store, Call Center, and inventory modules
  • Design, develop, and enhance solutions supporting order capture, sourcing, fulfillment orchestration, inventory visibility, payments, cancellations, returns, and customer care workflows
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design documentation
  • Build and maintain integrations between Sterling OMS and external systems, including upstream and downstream applications, cloud platforms, and middleware solutions
  • Improve the stability, performance, and scalability of Sterling OMS applications
  • Conduct design and code reviews and promote development best practices
  • Research and recommend technologies that support the overall technical strategy
  • Participate throughout the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, build, testing, implementation, sprint planning, estimation, and development sessions
  • Collaborate with developers, QA professionals, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Troubleshoot system and process issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions
  • Develop reusable code and libraries to improve development efficiency
  • Monitor and evaluate new tools, frameworks, technologies, and development practices
  • Mentor and support team members to strengthen technical capabilities and overall team performance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five to seven or more years of overall Information Technology experience
  • Five or more years of experience implementing and enhancing Sterling Order Management applications within retail environments
  • Three or more years of experience with the IBM Sterling Order Management Suite, including demonstrated subject matter expertise
  • Experience delivering at least two full lifecycle implementations covering requirements gathering, design, development, implementation, and optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including requirements, design, build, testing, and implementation
  • Hands‑on experience with Java and OMS development, including SOA, XML/XSLT, REST, and JSON
  • Experience with solution estimation and team structure definition
  • Experience managing or contributing to multiple concurrent projects within an Agile environment
  • Hands‑on experience with IBM Sterling Order Management versions 9.5 and/or 10
  • Experience with inventory management systems and processes
  • Proficiency with development tools such as Eclipse IDE and SoapUI
  • Experience working with SQL databases such as Oracle or DB2
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA, GitHub, or Bitbucket
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to mentor and support the development of team members
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases
  • Knowledge of IBM Sterling Store and IBM Call Center applications
