Position Overview
Webbon Group Inc. is seeking an experienced IBM MQ Systems Administrator to support and maintain enterprise messaging infrastructure in a complex, distributed IT environment.
This individual will be responsible for the reliability, performance, security, and ongoing improvement of IBM MQ services, including clustered messaging environments and Managed File Transfer (MFT) capabilities.
The ideal candidate brings extensive hands‑on experience administering IBM MQ, resolving complex messaging issues, implementing platform upgrades, and developing automation solutions that improve operational efficiency. The position requires someone who can work independently, collaborate effectively with technical teams, and maintain enterprise‑grade infrastructure with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
IBM MQ Infrastructure Management
- Configure, administer, and support IBM MQ environments across distributed Windows and Linux platforms.
- Maintain and optimize MQ clustering capabilities to support workload balancing, service availability, fault tolerance, and operational resilience.
- Implement and manage IBM MQ Managed File Transfer (MFT), including transfer agents, resource monitors, coordination queue managers, and secure file movement.
- Perform routine administrative activities involving queue managers, system logs, channel configurations, security policies, and performance optimization.
- Maintain operational readiness through appropriate backup, restoration, and recovery procedures.
- Coordinate and execute MQ software maintenance, patching, and version upgrades while minimizing disruption to business operations.
- Validate application compatibility, cluster functionality, and overall platform stability following infrastructure changes.
Automation and Scripting
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate MQ administration, provisioning, monitoring, and routine system management within Windows environments.
- Create and enhance Linux shell scripts, including Bash or KornShell, to support deployments, operational checks, log analysis, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual intervention through repeatable and reliable automation.
- Develop scripts and utilities that improve system visibility, automate health checks, and accelerate incident response.
Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting
- Configure, support, and enhance monitoring solutions for IBM MQ infrastructure and messaging services.
- Develop custom monitoring capabilities using MQ administrative commands, interfaces, APIs, and scripting tools.
- Investigate and resolve messaging failures, connection interruptions, stalled message processing, queue backlogs, and delivery-performance issues.
- Analyze message flows and interpret IBM MQ reason codes (MQRC) to isolate faults and determine root causes.
- Work with application support and integration teams to resolve complex messaging issues and improve service reliability.
Security, Operational Governance, and Documentation
- Maintain secure messaging environments using IBM MQ security capabilities, including TLS encryption, channel authentication (CHLAUTH), and connection authentication.
- Follow established enterprise change‑control, incident‑management, and operational governance procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and application teams on messaging architectures, connectivity requirements, and operational improvements.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation covering system configurations, operating procedures, troubleshooting activities, upgrades, and recovery processes.
Required Technical Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate substantial hands‑on experience in the following areas:
- IBM MQ Administration: Enterprise-level administration, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IBM MQ environments.
- MQ Clustering: Experience implementing and supporting MQ clusters, including cluster maintenance, resilience, and high‑availability considerations.
- Managed File Transfer: Practical experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting IBM MQ MFT.
- Platform Lifecycle Management: Experience planning and executing MQ upgrades, maintenance releases, patching, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
- Windows Automation: Strong PowerShell scripting capabilities applicable to MQ administration and operational automation.
- Linux Administration and Automation: Proficiency with Linux shell scripting, preferably Bash or KornShell.
- Monitoring and Diagnostics: Experience using enterprise monitoring solutions and developing customized MQ monitoring or diagnostic scripts.
- Messaging Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to analyze message flows, resolve MQRC errors, and troubleshoot application‑to‑application communication issues.
- Security: Working knowledge of IBM MQ authentication, authorization, TLS, and secure connectivity.
- Enterprise Operations: Familiarity with structured change management, technical documentation, and collaboration across infrastructure and application teams.
Professional Qualifications
The successful candidate should be able to:
- Work autonomously and take ownership of assigned technical responsibilities.
- Diagnose complex infrastructure problems through structured troubleshooting and sound technical judgment.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Operate effectively in environments where system availability, security, and operational consistency are critical.
- Balance ongoing production support requirements with planned infrastructure improvements and maintenance activities.
Engagement and Eligibility Requirements
