Job description

Job Description: Platform Delivery & Operations Manager (with IBM iSeries Administrator exp.)

About the Role

Client is a SaaS company delivering a cloud-hosted, multi-tenant Warehouse Management System built on IBMi and RPG. Their platform is mission-critical for customers, and they face complex challenges around deployments, upgrades, environment setup, security configuration, fleet management, and resource planning for new customer installs and go-lives.

They are looking for a hands-on Platform Operations Manager who can take ownership of these challenges, plan to address them, and lead the team to execute that plan. You will manage and grow a small but critical team currently handling IBMi operations, installs, upgrades, and implementation support. This role demands a strong technical foundation and the ability to define and drive repeatable, high-quality delivery and operational processes alongside the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end process of customer instance setup, upgrades, and environment lifecycle management.
  • Build and improve processes for:
    • Deployment planning and execution
    • Versioning and upgrade workflows
    • Managing legacy customizations
    • User and security setup validation
    • Hosting capacity planning
    • Go-live planning and risk mitigation
  • Lead fleet health monitoring initiatives: implement tooling and reporting to track infrastructure health, tenant distribution, and environment stability.
  • Manage and develop the existing operations and install team; clarify roles and responsibilities, set goals, and improve accountability.
  • Identify skill gaps hire or train to address them.
  • Audit current practices and documentation; create run-books, playbooks, and knowledge bases to reduce tribal knowledge and increase repeatability.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align deployments and customizations with product strategy and roadmap.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in platform operations, deployment management, or release engineering roles.
  • Strong process improvement mindset; demonstrated ability to transform chaotic, manual processes into scalable, repeatable systems.
  • Familiarity with IBM i / iSeries environments and RPG-based applications is a plus, but not required if you have a track record of learning complex legacy systems.
  • Hands-on technical skills: ability to troubleshoot issues, understand system constraints, and lead from the front.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills; ability to mentor and grow technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools, capacity planning models, and operational metrics.
  • Exposure to ERP systems and integration projects.
  • Experience managing time-sensitive deployments.
