Job Description

The IBC/IRE Coordinator helps ensure CSU’s institutional compliance with federal regulations and policies by supporting the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Institutional Review Entity (IRE), thereby facilitating institutional compliance with federal regulations and campus procedures related to the ethical conduct of research. This position supports the integrity of CSU’s research mission by helping communicate regulatory and policy concepts to a broad audience of stakeholders involved in life sciences research utilizing biohazardous materials.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Review IBC and IRE submissions for accuracy, contact PIs when deficiencies are found; determine appropriate approval process for submissions.
  • Assist in training new IBC and IRE members on their roles and responsibilities and the CSU IBC and IRE material review process and appropriate policies and guidelines.
  • Perform support functions for the IBC and IRE.
  • Attend meetings to assist in recording accurate minutes. Post-meeting duties include assistance in the execution of committee decisions, including correspondence with researchers to convey determinations about protocols and facilitate corrective actions, among other committee business.
  • Maintain accurate and complete paper and electronic records, and assures the records are accessible upon request.
  • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with investigators and their staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • 2 + years experience in regulatory compliance, research administration, scientific research, or laboratory management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NIH/OSP regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of DGOF Policy and former DURC/PEPP policies.
  • Knowledge of HHS/CDC Select Agent Regulations and/or USDA/APHIS permit regulations and requirements.
  • Experience in scientific research or laboratory management.
  • Qualify to obtain Tier 1 Select Agent Clearance as outlined by the FBI Bioterrorism Preparedness Act certification requirements.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals including faculty, administrators, government officials, colleagues, and support staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about committee matters.
Salary Range

$60,000 - $70,000
