Job summary

George Mason University seeks an IAM Platform Lead to serve as the enterprise IAM design authority. You will define identity architecture, standards, and governance for Entra ID, AD, Shibboleth/eduGAIN, and related services, guiding modernization and ensuring continuity across systems.

You will steward legacy Linux-hosted IAM services during a multi-year program, delivering secure, scalable identity solutions and collaboration across cybersecurity, HR, IT, and campus units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Significant experience designing, implementing, or governing enterprise IAM capabilities (Microsoft Entra ID, AD, hybrid identity, federation, SSO, lifecycle mgmt, authorization, governance, MFA).
• Knowledge of SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, LDAP, and legacy patterns.
• Ability to translate complex identity architecture into clear business, technical, risk, and governance recommendations.
• Ability to collaborate across cybersecurity, infrastructure, enterprise applications, HR, student systems, research administration, and IT groups.

Responsibilities

• Defines and maintains enterprise IAM reference architecture, target-state roadmap, standards, and decision framework for identity controls.
• Owns source-of-authority, attributes governance, lifecycle architecture, and authorization model decisions across identity populations.
• Establishes reusable onboarding, federation, SSO, claims, group, role, entitlement, provisioning, and audit-evidence standards.
• Partners with cybersecurity, infrastructure, enterprise applications, HR, student systems, and governance bodies to review designs and approve exceptions.
• Provides architectural consultation for IAM incidents, audits, modernization initiatives, and migration planning.
• Contributes to cross-functional projects and special IAM initiatives, including after-hours support when required.
