  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate semi-annual and focused IACUC inspections and maintain inspection records.
  • Provide administrative support for the Designated Member Review (DMR) process.

Job description

The University of Southern California (USC) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative IACUC Coordinator to join the Office of Research & Innovation. This role is a key contributor to USC’s animal care and use oversight program, supporting regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and continuous process improvement. Reporting to the Associate Director, the IACUC Coordinator independently manages training programs, coordinates inspections, and provides administrative support for Designated Member Reviews (DMRs).

Position Summary

The IACUC Coordinator provides operational and programmatic support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This role partners closely with IACUC leadership and administrators to ensure compliance with federal regulations while enhancing the effectiveness of committee processes.

Key Responsibilities
IACUC Training Program Management
  • Independently manage and coordinate required IACUC training program(s) for Principal Investigators (PIs), laboratory personnel, and committee members.
  • Ttrack and document completion of required training.
  • Maintain training records and generate compliance reports.
  • Develop and update training materials in collaboration with IACUC leadership.
  • Serve as a point of contact for training-related inquiries.
IACUC Inspection Coordination
  • Coordinate semi-annual and focused IACUC inspections.
  • Develop inspection schedules and communicate with investigators and laboratory personnel.
  • Track inspection findings, corrective actions, and completion timelines.
  • Maintain inspection documentation in iStar and related systems.
  • Assist with updating inspection procedures to reflect system enhancements and regulatory changes.
Designated Member Review (DMR) Support
  • Provide administrative support for the DMR process.
  • Prepare and distribute DMR materials to designated reviewers.
  • Track review timelines and ensure regulatory deadlines are met.
  • Communicate with investigators regarding required revisions.
  • Maintain documentation of DMR actions in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policy.
Operational & Administrative Support
  • Assist in maintaining protocol records and ensuring data accuracy in iStar.
  • Support audit preparation and regulatory reporting as needed.
  • Generate metrics and reports related to inspections, training, and DMR activity.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Serve as back-up to the IACUC Administrator, as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2–3 years of experience in research administration, compliance, or regulatory oversight preferred
  • Familiarity with federal animal research regulations (e.g., PHS Policy, Animal Welfare Act) preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Experience with compliance or research administration systems (e.g., iStar) preferred

The hourly range for this position is $25.25 - $30.25.

  • Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience to be able to advise on project procedures and analysis techniques.
