Job description

I&E Technician (Mt Belvieu, Tx) Austin Industrial

Instrumentation and Electrician Technician

Must be able to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments, and precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and understand manuals, blueprint schematics, and testing specifications. Must have some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
  • Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, such as ratios and proportions, numbers with powers of 10, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversions, inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI, etc.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings; prepare job reports.
  • Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Calibrate equipment using standard procedures; interpret and apply calibration instructions.
  • Understand principles of pH and redox, and the equipment used to measure and control them.
  • Work with Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, and electrical components such as diodes and capacitors.
  • Understand steam properties and reactions in different situations.
  • Apply principles of chemistry and physics relevant to instrumentation, such as specific gravity, density, melting/boiling points, etc.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with proper test equipment.
  • Understand how instrumentation loops function and the role of each component.
  • Familiarity with chemical plant process equipment like distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors.
  • Measure pressure, level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
  • Maintain a current electrician's license or ID card per state regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

3-5 years of Journeyman-level experience required.
