Instrumentation and Electrical (E&I) Technician: The Impact You’ll Have On The Organization and World
- By conducting thorough inspections and troubleshooting electrical systems, you will ensure the continuous and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment, reducing downtime and enhancing overall productivity.
- Your role in diagnosing control problems contributes to maintaining a safe working environment, aligning with plant safety policies and minimizing risks associated with electrical failures.
- You’ll play a part in process optimization. Through effective maintenance and troubleshooting, the E&I Technician supports the optimization of production processes, helping to achieve operational goals and improve product quality.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like? Here are your primary responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting/repairing/testing/inspecting/calibrating various industrial equipment: primarily motors, air actuated valves, pressure, temperature, flow, and level devices.
- Documenting and reporting work execution key findings.
- Ensuring proper operation of all control system components to include electronic components, analyzers, on/off valves, control valves solenoids, limit switches, PLC and related I/O modules.
- Assisting in and providing expertise on electrical inspections and new/existing installations.
- Working with operations and maintenance personnel to help identify & prioritize electrical and instrumentation needs and issues.
- Sharing knowledge with other technicians as it relates to maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation, electrical components, and controls.
- Adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 3 years of electrical maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
- State of Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license or higher.
- Experience troubleshooting and performing preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment including motor controls, control valves, programmable logic controllers, and control instrumentation.
- Willing and able to work outside at heights, and in hot or cold weather conditions.
- Willing and able to work overtime and on-callas required; willing and able to adhere to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.
- Willing and capable of wearing a respirator as required; willing and able tolift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience reading technical drawings, schematics, and interpreting OEM manuals.
- Experience performing instrument calibrations.
- Knowledge of industrial test equipment.
- Experience and/or knowledge of programming and troubleshooting Honeywell Experion or other Distributed Control Systems.
- Experience troubleshooting AC and DC motors & drives, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and tuning control loops.
- Experience with Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and related electrical equipment up to 480V.
- Experience with computer operating systems, networks, and electronic information handling.
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Experience with electrical one line drawings, process & instrumentation diagrams, cable schedules, functional descriptions, I/O lists, and other related electrical and controls documents.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
