Job summary

Austin Industrial is seeking an I&E Apprentice to support instrument maintenance and calibration across our client facilities. You will test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair instrument devices, reading manuals, schematics, and PLC-related controls, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, NCCER certification, and a state electrical license. 3–5 years journeyman level experience is preferred; we require legal authorization to work in

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or 1–3 years related experience and training.
• NCCER certification and an electrical license required.
• 3–5 years journeyman level experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and replace process instruments as part of the maintenance program.
• Maintain process instruments including valves and vibration monitors.
• Pressure test pneumatic instruments and controllers, transducers, and valves in service.
• Conduct instrumentation evaluation and troubleshooting for electrical, pneumatic, electronic and PLC systems.
• Loop check electrical wiring for continuity and proper termination.
• Perform field calibration of electronic instruments with transmitters, controllers, transducers, valves and recorders in service.
• Read, understand, correlate, and trouble-shoot from one-line schematics, P&IDs, and ladder diagrams.
• Knowledgeable in use of electrical equipment testers including VOM, AMP meter and 1000-volt insulation tester.
• Familiarity with NCCER certification requirements and safety regulations.

I&E Apprentice

Must be able to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair controlling, indicating and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments and equipment and precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and understand manuals, blueprint schematics and testing specifications. Must have some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

• Instrument Technician
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and replace process instruments as a part of the facility’s maintenance program
  • Maintain process instruments including valves, vibration monitors and other instruments
  • Pressure test pneumatic instruments for leaks, pneumatic instruments with controllers, transducers, and valves in service
  • Conduct instrumentation evaluation and troubleshooting for electrical, pneumatic, electronic as well as programmable logic control (PLC) systems
  • Loop check electrical wiring for continuity and proper termination
  • Perform field calibration of electronic instruments with transmitters, controllers, transducers, valves, and recorders in service
  • Read, understand, correlate, and trouble-shoot from one-line schematics P & ID's, and ladder diagrams
  • Knowledgeable in the use of electrical equipment testers including V.O.M., AMP meter and 1000-volt insulation tester
  • Knowledgeable in communication and applicable electrical OSHA rules and regulations
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) certification for Instrumentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required For This Position

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NCCER certified and State Electrical License. Plant Maintenance experience preferred.

Certifications/ Licenses: NCCER, TDLR Electrical License, and DL

Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
