Job summary

AdvanSix in Virginia Beach seeks an Instrumentation-Electrical Technician to diagnose and repair instrument and electrical systems, including PLCs, motors, and control circuits, while performing preventive maintenance.

You will read schematics, work with high voltage equipment, and ensure safety compliance; five years industrial experience and an associate degree preferred, with strong documentation and teamwork skills, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or similar certification in industrial electrical/electronic technology.
• Five years industrial experience Instrumentation-Electrical Maintenance experience.
• Ability to read/interpret electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation drawings and schematics.
• Demonstrated knowledge of PLCs and CNCs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of 480 Volt MCC and Power Distribution Systems.
• Basic programming knowledge with the ability to understand code and troubleshooting desired.
• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics desired.
• Mechanical background to include troubleshooting skills desired.
• Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Instrumentation-Electrical (I&E) Technician diagnoses instrument and electrical systems problems. I&E Technician services, troubleshoots, repairs and/or replaces, aligns, and maintains instrument and electrical instrument systems, system components, motor control circuits, power supplies, and PLCs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Troubleshooting of critical equipment upon failure
• Troubleshoot AC and DC Electronics
• Use Electronic Test Equipment (VOM, O-Scope, Megger, Calibrators, etc.)
• Apply Electrical Codes and Standards
• Read/Interpret Electrical, Electronic, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, and Instrumentation Drawings, Schematics, and Technical Manuals
• Install, Troubleshoot, Maintain and Repair PLC and/or DCS Hardware, Software and Controls
• Diagnose and repair AC & DC Motors and Control Circuits
• Maintain 480/240 Volt 3 phase MCC and Power Distribution Systems
• Replace Electrical Control Devices (Limit, Proximity and Photo Switches, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Valves, etc.)
• Repair Instrumentation and Control Devices (Pressure, Flow, Level Temperature, etc.)
• Standard electrical installations including bend conduit and pull wire
• Perform Preventive and Predictive maintenance
• Move and set up equipment as needed
• Wire equipment and electrical drops within a high voltage area
• Install and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic industrial equipment
• Operate aerial work platforms

Basic Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in industrial electrical/electronic technology, industrial maintenance or similar certification
• Five years industrial experience Instrumentation-Electrical Maintenance experience
• Ability to read/interpret electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation drawings and schematics
• Demonstrated knowledge of PLCs and CNCs
• Demonstrated knowledge of 480 Volt MCC and Power Distribution Systems
• Basic programming knowledge with the ability to understand code and troubleshooting desired
• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics desired
• Mechanical background to include troubleshooting skills desired
• Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English required
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse set of cross functional groups
• Proven organizational skills and ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks
• Proficient computer skills are required to effectively use requisite software applications
• Able to operate various types of equipment including hand, power, diagnostic, and machine tools

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. individually and up to 100 lbs. with assistance
• Requires frequent reaching, twisting, walking, stretching, bending, kneeling, climbing and stooping movements
• Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environment and around heated equipment
• Ability to wear and work-in required personal protective equipment
• Participation in the Plant Emergency Response Team is a condition of employment

The hourly rate for this position is $35.00 to $45.00.
