Job summary

Energy Transfer Family of Partnerships seeks an Instrument Technician to provide ongoing instrumentation and electrical support to operations and maintenance teams. You will install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain field instruments and control systems to ensure safe, compliant plant operation.

Qualifications

  • Reads P&IDs, loop drawings and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot instrumentation and controls.
  • Performs routine calibrations, loop checks and functional testing of instruments and control systems.
  • Maintains instrument reliability and supports safety and compliance.
  • Communicates equipment status with operations and maintenance.
  • Loads and references procedures to plan and execute work efficiently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level, detectors).
  • Process switches, heater pilots, burner monitoring devices, valves, regulators and limit switches.
  • Vibration monitoring equipment and related diagnostics.
  • Complete work right the first time with minimal rework and organized area.
  • Support start-up, shutdown, and commissioning from an instrumentation standpoint.
  • Verify instrument operation after maintenance and reports status to operations.

Summary

This position provides ongoing instrumentation and electrical support to operations and maintenance teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots field instrumentation such as: Pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters, gas detectors
  • Process switches
  • Heater pilots and burner monitoring devices
  • Control valves, positioners, solenoids, regulators and limit switches
  • Vibration monitoring equipment (accelerometers, proximity probes, and related devices)
  • Performs routine calibrations, loop checks, and functional testing of instruments and control systems
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation and control system issues.
  • Identifies and reports potential reliability issues before they impact operations
  • Verifies proper instrument operation after maintenance and repairs before returning to service
  • Uses P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and verify proper operation
  • Reviews work orders and procedures to plan and execute work efficiently
  • Documents work performed and communicates equipment status with operations and maintenance teams
  • Supports start-up, shutdown, and commissioning of equipment from an instrumentation standpoint
  • Ensures all instruments are accurate, reliable, and support safe and compliant plant operation in alignment with process safety requirements
  • Follows site procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Takes ownership of instrument performance and reliability within assigned areas
  • Completes work right the first time with minimal rework and maintains a clean, organized work area
Required Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
Required Qualifications
  • Level C (0 – 2 years) of relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Can execute tasks with guidance.
  • Level B (2 – 4 years) of relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Troubleshoot independently and prevent repeat failures.
  • Level A (4 years) of relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Owns area reliability, mentors others, drives improvements.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring diagrams
  • Basic understanding of control loops and signal flow
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with our Operations group.
  • PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Strong fundamental math skills.
  • Basic understanding of process conditions (pressure, temperature, density/specific gravity) and their impact on instrument performance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology or Certification.
  • Bentley Nevada experience.
  • Related software and system certifications
  • Previous instrument technician experience.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
